Mixing

• Do you record your own music at home?

• Do you want to get the best out of your recording?

• Looking for a mix that will sound great in your car, phone, computer and home theater?

Creating an audio mix that is pleasing to listeners is a true art form. The professional manipulation of the source signals' level, equalizations, dynamics, panning, and the addition of effects such as reverb and delay, can have a huge impact on the overall feel of your song.

Long-Distance Mixing
Long -distance mixing seems a hard thing to do - the idea to give to another person the responsibility of finishing what you have put so much effort in recording without being present in the mixing process. Don't worry! Every mix includes the initial mix and up to two rounds of revisions based on your feedback, so we can achieve a great result together.

If I am suggesting any edits that I think will improve the clarity of the mix and arrangement, I may send it in a mp3 for your consideration (apart from the revisions).

Revisions
Be as specific as possible when submitting your revision notes so I can be effective meeting your expectations. For example: "lead vocal up on 1st chorus", "backing vocal down from 1:12 to 2:08", "less reverb on snare"

Preparing Your Tracks Before Delivering To Mix

Save yourself some money and make sure your tracks are edited and ready to go before you send them to me. To avoid the chances of mistake, please make sure to send only the tracks which is intended to be included in the final mix.

• Consolidate all tracks from zero
- Consolidate each track so that all of the audio files start at the same point (i.e. Bar zero...). This will allow them to be imported in the proper time relationship.

• Check all edits
- Make sure that all edits are good, take the time before you consolidate the files to really listen to the edit points to check for clicks, pops, weird transitions and crossfades.

• Remove all plugins and automation
- If you use any plugins please make sure that they are removed before exporting your files.
- If you are using any automation, please remove it before exporting.
- All essential (i.e. special-effect) plug-ins should be printed to another track, or bounced to disk and imported. I may not have the same plug-in or the same version of that plug-in. It's okay to leave clearly labeled unprocessed versions of the above processed track.
- Use Mute Regions to mute audio tracks, instead of muting with automation.

• Organize
- Create sub-folders for common instrument groupings such as drums, percussions, electric guitars, acoustic guitars, keyboards, brasses, lead vocals, bgvs. Organize the song by placing the tracks in their relevant folders.

• Rename and clearly label all tracks
- Please make sure that each track is clearly labeled, simple labels are best. Please use "Vocal Cathy" instead of only "Cathy" or "C_take2" for example, so I can recognize it easily.
- Please remove all unintentional track name suffixes. For example: "Bass.wav " or "Bass_DI" instead of "Bass_02_B.wav"
- Do not add the song title to the beginning of each file name
- Please make sure that all stereo files are named identically with a "R" and "L" designation. For example "OH.L.wav " and "OH.R.wav" instead of "OH.L.wav and "OH_01.R.wav".
- If you are creating files on a Mac using OSX, make sure that the file permissions are set to "read/write"

• Create Memory Location markers
- Use markers to assign names to the different parts of the songs like: intro, verse A, bridge, chorus, solo...

• Vocals
- Make sure that the lead vocal is comped and clearly labeled.
- If you have any ad-lib or doubles which are separate from the lead vocal, be sure that they are properly labeled together with any harmony parts and background vocals.

 Include full information
- Please include with each song: tempo information (BPM), time signature, key signature, and any other applicable information. This information should be documented in a text file, placed in the song folder with the audio files, or in the body of the email.
- If the music has tempo automation, export and send the midi file so I can import into my software, before importing your audio tracks.
